Benefits

Over 10,000 UK companies will require an ESOS assessment before December 2015.

Participating organisations need to appoint a lead assessor to carry out and oversee or review their energy audits and overall ESOS assessment.

Only a registered lead assessor can sign off on an ESOS report which will audit and assess the energy consumption of the organisations buildings, transport and processes.

Lead assessors can be employees or external contractors as long as they are members of an approved professional body register.

Lead assessors may engage and manage teams which could include non domestic energy assessors (DEC and EPC) so there is a great opportunity for non domestic energy assessors to take advantage of this new industry.

ESOS requirements

When is it happening?

The Esos energy savings opportunity scheme will mandate energy audits for around 9,000 UK businesses.

You are likely to qualify for the Esos energy savings opportunity scheme if, on the qualification date of 31st December 2014 for the first phase of Esos you are:

A large undertaking which has 250 or more employees in the UK

A large undertaking which has fewer than 250 employees, but has an annual turnover in excess of 50 million euro, and an annual balance sheet in excess of 43 million euro.

ESOS compliance

Large companies must comply with Esos by 5th December 2015.

Every Esos report has to be signed off by a lead assessor who must meet the competencies set out in the PAS 51215:2014 document and become a member of an approved professional body register.

Esos lead assessors can work with energy assessors to assist them in producing an Esos report.

Whether you are an energy assessor wishing to become an Esos lead assessor, or looking to work with a Esos lead assessor or a qualifying organisation seeking an Esos lead assessor, please get in touch with us.
