European energy performance of buildings directive

In order to meet the requirements of the European energy performance of buildings directive the government has recently introduced a new piece of legislation regarding air conditioning systems.

Due to the fact that these systems are notoriously high users of power, this legislation demands that from January 2011, all units over 12kw must be inspected by professional air conditioning energy assessors (ACEA).

These ACEAs will check that the units are operating safely and will provide the owners and users of the systems with advice on how to use the systems more efficiently, in an attempt to reduce the level of CO2 emitted.

For more information on air conditioning reports, including who is responsible and who needs one, please download a copy of the CLG guidelines.
