DesignBuilder is a high productivity replacement for the basic BRE iSBEM program and is widely regarded for efficiently generating Level 3 and 4 EPCs in the UK and BERs in Ireland. It also provides checks against Part-L2 of the England and Wales Building Regulations, Section 6 of Scottish Building Regulations, Part F in Northern Ireland and Part-L in Republic of Ireland.

The software uses an advanced 3-D graphical interface and other features which enables Energy Assessors to produce EPCs much quicker than with other software tools. Key features include:

Floor plans can be imported from CAD drawings or scanned paper drawings.

Drawing tools that allow even complex building geometries to be quickly modelled.

Efficient data entry through a data inheritance scheme that allows data to be loaded for the whole building or parts of the building.

-Automatic generation of EPCs and Recommendations report as XML files.

Integration into the Quidos Accreditation scheme to allow EPCs to be lodged on the Landmark database.

ORCalc for public building energy assessors

Energy assessor software

For use by Public Building Energy Assessors

Free licence for accredited members

ORCalc (Operational Rating Calculation) is a software package which allows users to create Display Energy Certificates (DECs) for all public buildings which require their energy usage and performance to be monitored.

Through the input of information including building category, energy consumption and building occupancy, users are able to generate both an Operational Rating and an Advisory Report, which combine together to produce a completed DEC.

The Operational Rating provides members of the public with information regarding the energy consumption of the building over a year-long period, whilst the Advisory Report includes a number of recommendations which if acted upon will help improve the energy performance of the building.

With the ORCalc software ranking a building’s rating on a grading scale from best to worst, the resulting Display Energy Certificate will alert both staff and members of the public to the energy consumption of the building in comparison to others.

iSBEM is an interface for SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model), and enables users to assess the energy performance of non-domestic buildings in compliance with the National Calculation Methodology.

By inputting data relating to construction type, HVAC and geometry, users are able to construct an accurate representation of a building’s energy performance, which is then compared with a standard reference building in order to produce a numerical rating for its emission rate.

The user is then required to complete a Recommendation Report for the building, highlighting areas in which the energy performance of the building may be improved.

The Recommendations Report and the numerical rating are then combined to produce an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), which offers prospective clients an overview of the building’s energy performance as well as advice on how to reduce carbon emissions.
