It is the role of the DEA to collect data on the dimensions, construction, heating and hot water provision of a property. They then enter the information into an approved software programme. This, in turn, will produce the EPC.
The first part of the certificate is a benchmarked measure of the home’s energy performance on a scale A to G, where A is very efficient and G is at the other end of the spectrum.
The second part of the EPC is to produce cost effective recommendations for improving the energy performance of the home. Information on renewable energy and recommendations on energy efficient behaviour are also aspects.
It is the role of the Domestic Energy Assessor to interpret whether these are practical for his/her client.
What is an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)?
The Energy Performance Certificate will look broadly similar to a certificate on a refrigerator. Its purpose is to record, in a clear unambiguous format, how energy efficient the home is as a building.
Using colour charts, the EPC records the current rating and compares this with the rating at which the owner or tenant should aim.
The EPC course (DEA) City & Guilds 6361 training course includes visits to ALL the 5 domestic properties types required to complete the City & Guilds Domestic Energy Assessor training course assessments.
Unlike some other providers, candidates will leave the course will all the 5 required assessment visits which are completed during the course.
Candidates portfolios are complete and ready for final validation and certification – saving potentially weeks of time in finding, assessing and portfolio building.

EPC course (DEA) | City & Guilds 6361 Level 3 Training Course Practical Overview
Prepare for, undertake and complete Domestic Energy Assessments. This unit will be assessed by the production of at least 5 assignments, effectively the production of at least 5 Energy Performance Certificates (EPC’s).
EPC course candidates must complete at least one assignment on the domestic energy assessor training course for each of the following age bands:
Pre 1929 1930-1965 1966-1982 Post 1982
All EPC course candidates must cover ALL of the following housing types at least once when completing the assignments:
Terraced, Semi Detached, Detached, Flat and Maisonette
The EPC’s must cover at least five of the following six issues. N.B. More than one issue can arise in one assignment.
Extensions, Alternative wall type, Room in roof, Solid wall construction, Conservatory, Converted former non domestic.
We shall arrange for you to visit ALL FIVE different types of properties where you will conduct a home inspection. You will gather evidence from the properties identifying the age, its construction, the type of insulation and heating system used.
You will be given access to software that will produce an Energy Performance Certificate based on the information you have gathered during your visit.
Receive Your Personal EPC course DEA Pack
You will receive everything that you will need for your Domestic Energy Assessment training course, as well as items you can use once you are a fully qualified Domestic Energy Assessor or Green Deal Advisor.
This includes a camera, pen, ruler, laptop and an A4 clipboard; as well as your own personal portfolio file for collating your work.
Comprehensive Theory Learning
During your first day, you will be sat in a classroom-based learning environment, where you will study the background of energy efficiency and general building construction; as well as an overview of what you will be doing for the rest of the week.
You will be in a small group to ensure that everybody receives high-quality training tailored to them.
Our dedicated and experienced trainers will work with you extensively in the classroom to answer any questions you have, as well as assist you in making subjective decisions and assumptions about Domestic Energy Assessment and the Green Deal.
If required, we have ‘focus rooms’ for 1-2-1 learning.
Complete Portfolio Build
Once each EPC has been generated, the last day of the course is spent collating all documentation and supporting evidence such as site notes, site plans, tables of calculations, datasheets and Inspection Risk Assessments into your finished DEA or GDA portfolio.
