What is Retrofit?

Retrofit, or retrofitting, is essentially the process of upgrading housing to a standard that it did not have when it was first built (for example, by improving insulation or ventilation). The aim is for this to be achieved through ambitious whole-house projects, where all those involved are competent and their work is properly monitored throughout.

PAS 2035:2023 is the framework that defines how the retrofit process should be carried out. It sets out the roles, responsibilities, and requirements necessary for a project to be successful.

Overseen by Trustmark and sponsored by Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, PAS 2035 outlines how to identify appropriate improvements and how to design and specify Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs) using a whole-house approach.
