Non-Domestic Energy Assessment Masterclass: From Compliance to Retrofit

This masterclass is designed for Non-Domestic Energy Assessors, DEC Assessors, Air Conditioning Inspectors and other building energy professionals. Built around real-world assessment scenarios, it combines technical guidance, compliance considerations and practical modelling advice to help you strengthen your existing knowledge, recognise common assessment issues and see how your expertise can support clients beyond the production of an EPC.

The session covers seven key areas:

  • Non-Domestic MEES update: current Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards, EPC requirements, landlord responsibilities, exemptions, enforcement and the latest policy direction
  • Non-Domestic EPC conventions, Issue 9: a practical review of seven conventions introduced or amended in Issue 9, including mechanical extract, lighting, building dimensions, HVAC and modelling considerations
  • Non-domestic lighting: identifying lighting technologies, modelling approaches, lighting controls, relevant conventions, evidence requirements and practical iSBEM inputs
  • Common HVAC systems, Level 3: identifying common non-domestic heating, cooling and ventilation systems, how they operate, relevant conventions and appropriate iSBEM modelling selections
  • DECs in a nutshell: Display Energy Certificate requirements, operational ratings, energy consumption data, assessment processes and compliance responsibilities
  • ACIRs in a nutshell: Air Conditioning Inspection Report requirements, system capacity thresholds, inspection responsibilities, system identification and energy efficiency recommendations
  • Beyond the EPC: NDEAs and retrofit projects: how NDEA knowledge and existing assessment skills can contribute to non-domestic retrofit projects, including an introduction to PAS 2038, assessment roles, improvement planning and post-retrofit evaluation

What you will take away

By the end of the masterclass, you should have a stronger understanding of non-domestic energy compliance, greater confidence in recognising and modelling common building services, and a clearer appreciation of how EPCs, DECs and ACIRs can support wider energy improvement strategies. The session also explores opportunities to extend your services into retrofit-related assessment and consultancy, while recognising the boundaries of your existing competence.
