DECC Announcement: Domestic RHI Launches Today (9th April)

*Please see below for details

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are pleased to announce that the regulations governing the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) have been signed into law.  From this morning, when the Ofgem domestic RHI website launched, people who have installed eligible renewable heating systems will be able to apply for the financial incentive.

The domestic scheme is for homeowners, social and private landlords, and people who build their own homes.  It is available to households both on and off the gas grid – though those without mains gas are likely to benefit most.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is the world’s first long-term financial support programme for renewable heat, offering homeowners quarterly payments to help offset the cost of installing low carbon systems in their properties.  The technologies currently covered by the scheme are biomass only boilers, biomass pellet stoves with integrated boilers, air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and solar thermal panels (flat plate and evacuated tube for hot water only).

The domestic RHI will be delivered by Ofgem and guidance is available on www.ofgem.gov.uk/domestic-rhi. Further details on the scheme design can be found on our domestic RHI policywebpage. For queries about the domestic RHI please call the Energy Savings Advice Service on 0300 123 1234 (in England and Wales) or Home Energy Scotland on 0808 808 2282.

Kind regards,

The RHI team
